How Habitron works

Habitron is a free app for Mac, Windows and Android. It watches through your webcam, recognizes your hands and face on your own device, and beeps the moment a hand reaches a part of your face you chose. That instant alert is what helps you catch nail biting, hair pulling, skin picking and face touching as it starts.

1. Choose what to watch

Pick one or more zones: Mouth/Nose (nail biting, nose picking), Eyes/Lashes (lash pulling, eye rubbing), Hair/Forehead (hair pulling, brow pulling) and Beard/Chin (beard pulling, skin picking).

2. Press Start

Habitron opens your webcam and finds your face and hands many times per second, using Google's open-source MediaPipe hand and face models running locally on your computer.

3. Get an instant alert

When a hand enters a chosen zone, Habitron beeps. If the hand stays, the beeps get longer, and after a while a gentle "Hey, kindly stop" message appears. Move your hand away and it resets.

4. Keep working

Leave Habitron open while you work, study, game or sit on calls. It keeps watching while you use other apps.

What happens to your camera video

Nothing leaves your device. Each frame is analyzed in memory and discarded immediately. There is no recording, no upload and no account.

Questions

What do I need?

A Mac with Apple silicon, a Windows 10 or 11 PC with a webcam, or an Android phone (it uses the front camera). Built-in laptop cameras work fine.

Does it slow down my computer?

It uses some processing power while monitoring, like a video call does. You can stop it any time.

Is it free?

Yes. There is no subscription, no trial and no account.
